Celebrating 30 Years of Service
Women’s Center Annual Luncheon Presents:
Voices of Change - Beyond the Silence
January 26, 2006
Join the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County on March 23rd,
11:30-1:00 at the Civic Memorial Auditorium for their 26th Annual
Luncheon event. This year’s event will give special tribute to the
Women’s Center founders and celebrate the kick off of the agency’s
30th anniversary.
Each year, this sell out event brings together over 600 community
leaders, citizens, businesses and organizations in support of the
agency’s critical services that reach over 24,000 women, children
and men victims of domestic violence and sexual assault annually.
This event provides an educational and awareness venue on the issue
and prevalence of family violence and abuse in our own communities
and is a major fundraiser for the agency.
This
year’s keynote address will be given by Zulema “Ruby” White Starr,
Program Manager in the Family Violence Department of the National
Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Ruby will inspire and
educate the listeners. She focuses on examining and addressing such
issues relevant to children exposed to domestic violence,
resilience, and cultural competence. She serves as a national
advisory committee member for the Women of Color Network, is a
member and immediate-past president of the Board of Directors of the
Nevada Network Against Domestic Violence, and volunteers for the
Committee to Aid Abused Women, facilitating the Teen Speaker’s
Bureau and conducting women’s groups in the emergency shelter. Ruby
has extensively shared her personal experience with thousands of
people and to the media throughout the Country in hopes that her
experiences will lead to better practices and outcomes for both
battered women and their children. She has appeared twice on the
nationally syndicated daytime talk show “Leeza”.
Mistress
of Ceremonies is Judith Chambers, Special Assistant to the Vice
President for University Advancement at the University of the
Pacific. Prior to this position, she was Vice President for Student
Life at UOP for 27 years. During her 27 years in Student Affairs,
she built a nationally recognized program. She received the two
highest awards given by the National Association of Student
Personnel Administrators for her leadership in this arena. She was
the first woman invited to join the then 75 year-old Stockton Rotary
Club and is currently a member of the Business Leadership Summit
Executive Leadership Committee, is President of Delta Health Care,
the Empress of WHIM, a member of KVIE San Joaquin Advisory Committee
and is on the Board of Directors for Stockton Beautiful. Judy was
appointed by President Ronald Regan and George Bush to service on
the Board of Directors for the Student Loans Marketing Association
Board (SALLIE MAE) and was also appointed by Governor Peter Wilson
to represent California on the Western Interstate Commission on
Higher Education. Judy has received several other State
Congressional Federal and Academic Appointments.
