Sexual Assault Counseling for Children and Teens

The trauma of sexual abuse can be devastating. Without the necessary treatment the effects can last a lifetime. The Women’s Center works year round to provide counseling services to children and teens, promoting prevention and improving systems that serve victims. Certified peer counselors offer counseling services for males and females between the ages of 3 and 17.

Symptoms

Victims of sexual assault may experience some of the following symptoms:

  • Sleeplessness
  • Loss or gain of appetite
  • Depression
  • Moodiness
  • Nightmares
  • Anger

Children may express their symptoms behaviorally, verbally, physically and/or emotionally.

Counseling Provides:

  • A safe and secure environment to express feelings
  • A way of discovering personal boundaries and setting limits
  • Validation and affirmation of feelings

All counseling services are confidential within the guidelines of the mandated reporting laws for minors. Services are offered in English and in Spanish and are free of charge.
