  • An Emergency shelter (DAWN House) in Stockton and an emergency safe house (TREE House) in Tracy for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • 24-hour accompaniment and services for rape victims at the hospital and court
  • Individual counseling for victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse
  • Support groups for battered women in Lodi, Stockton, Manteca, Tracy, French Camp and Escalon
  • Advocacy and court accompaniment for victims undergoing legal proceedings
  • Training for battered women seeking Temporary Restraining Orders
  • Self-esteem classes for women recently released from the County Jail
  • Rape-prevention training for young women throughout the community
  • Specialized services for children ages 0 to 5, their parents, and educators including counseling, education, and trainings.
  • Education programs on domestic violence, sexual abuse and sexual harassment for professional associations, businesses, schools, universities, churches, and community agencies
  • CalWORKs Collaborative links eligibility workers, victims, and the Women’s Center to provide services for battered women transitioning from public assistance
  • Child Protective Services Collaborative (Differential Response) allows a Women’s Center employee to participate in home visits, with CPS team, where domestic violence is present.
  • Stockton Police Department Collaborative provides a Women’s Center employee to train all seasoned, rookie, and nonsworn personnel and training to medical first responders and hospitals.
  • Parenting Classes for domestic violence survivors
  • Break the Silence on Domestic Violence Campaign implements a regional awareness campaign on a local level to encourage a local response domestic violence.
  • T.E.A.M. (Team Education Awareness Model), offering domestic violence services to Southeast Asian, Hispanic and Youth populations
  • Satellite Women Center offices in Lodi and Tracy.

About the Women's Center

For over three decades, the Women's Center has been the lifeline to help and hope for thousands of women, children, and men in San Joaquin County.  Our mission is to provide a wide range of supportive, educational and crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, enabling them to regain control of their lives.

The agency now reaches over 24,000 individuals each year through its comprehensive victim services and community outreach and education programs. The Women's Center is the sole certified provider of services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in San Joaquin County, and operates the only undisclosed emergency shelters for battered women and their children.

Our History

The Women’s Center opened its doors on March 1, 1976. When it opened, the Tracy Press reported: “There is a new source of energy in Stockton, a place where the action never seems to quit.” That energy has propelled the Center from a modest beginning over 25 years ago to its current status as a major provider of social services to the women in San Joaquin County.  [More Information]

Accomplishments

In 1975, eight women decided to create a center where women could meet in a supportive environment and discuss common interests. Beginning with a budget of $280 dollars, they opened a drop-in center in the basement of a local church, and women of the surrounding area were invited to bring their children for seminars, readings, and other group projects.  [More Information]
